Artist Michael Turner Passes Away
 |
So very sad to report that Michael Turner passed away June 27th at the all too young age of 37. He was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a bone-based cancer that attacks the cartilage, in March of 2000. He battled his illness bravely, making convention appearances throughout the entire time.
Born in Crossville, Tennessee, Michael began his comic book career at Top Cow Productions. He started off doing background illustrations, but soon helped to create and launch the comic book series Witchblade in October of 1995. Michael went on to debut his first creator owned series, Fathom, in the summer of 1998. He departed Top Cow Productions in 2002 to start his own publishing company, Aspen MLT. Turner and Aspen have collaborated with DC Comics on several projects including Superman: Godfall, Superman/Batman, Identity Crisis, and Justice League of America. His work has also graced many of Marvel Comics' covers the past couple of years including the variant covers to the Civil War mini-series.
Popular with members of the comic book industry and fans alike, Michael Turner will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family can be sent to:
Aspen MLT, Inc.
C/O Michael Turner
5855 Green Valley Circle, Suite 111
Culver City, CA, 90230
Anyone wishing to make a charitable donation in Michael Turner's memory should send them to his requested charities: The American Cancer Society or The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

DC Comics Solicitations for September 2008
 |
The Secret Six are back! Most of the team first put together in the pages of Villains United, and last seen in the Secret Six mini-series, are back in a new monthly. Who will join Catman, Scandal, Ragman, and Deadshot? All the details will be filled in by writer extraordinaire Gail Simone, and her former Birds of Prey penciller Nicola Scott.
Don't miss the beginning of the most ferocious and scandalous Six story yet!
Be sure to check out all the great stuff coming from DC in September, and feel free to discuss them in the HI! Forum. |

DC Comics Solicitations for August 2008
 |
Spotlight on Superman this month. Who doesn't love Superman? Catwoman certainly looks quite fond of him on the cover to THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #16! And Big Blue can be seen in many other titles shipping from DC in August. The one I think will really rock is FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND #1, part one of a 2-issue Superman adventure. Writer Grant Morrison and artist Doug Mahnke will take you on an unforgettable, hyperdelic journey from the streets of Metropolis, through the 52 worlds of the multiverse. This issue also includes a pair of 3-D glasses so you can fully enjoy the 3-D section filled with eye-popping visuals and mind-boggling glimpses into the mysteries behind FINAL CRISIS!
Another Superman title not to be missed this month is ALL STAR SUPERMAN #12, the final chapter of the incredible twelve issue run by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. In my humble opinion, this has been the best Superman series I've ever read. If you haven't been picking it up, I would definitely recommend purchasing the collected editions.
Be sure to check out all the "super" DC comics coming in August, and feel free to discuss them in the HI! Forum. |

DC Comics Solicitations for July 2008
 |
Now that Final Crisis is in full swing, it's time for some tie-in titles to make the scene. This month we have Final Crisis: Requiem, which is a one-shot honoring the passing of a great hero who’s been a staple in the DC Universe for years. The other is Final Crisis: Rogues’ Revenge, a three issue mini written by Geoff Johns with art by Scott Kolins. What's a Crisis without a Flash in peril? I love the Rogues, and their lives have been pretty tough since they murdered Bart Allen. Will they finally catch a break? I doubt it, but it should be a fun read.
Be sure to check out all the DC comics coming in July, and feel free to discuss them in the HI! Forum. |
